Using Media in Your Teaching
Media is such a big part of everyone's life today that it would be a mistake not to find ways to use it in your classes from time to time. This is true for all age groups, but it's especially true if you're working with children and youth. We're not talking about using a video as a "baby sitter" for the whole hour (although you may be able to occasionally find a good lesson on video that is relevant to your students). Rather, we're talking about finding or making simple audio or video clips to introduce, illustrate, apply, or conclude your lesson. Or you might want to use animated Power Point slides as the visuals for your Bible lesson (see some of our examples on the children's Bible lesson page).
The nice thing about using media is that most teachers now have access to the equipment needed, thanks to recording capabilities on our cell phones and computers, as well as to the thousands of resources already available on the internet. Don't be afraid to get your students involved in helping you make your own media projects since most of them may know more about technology than we do. Besides, getting them more actively involved in the lesson leads to greater learning.
Take a look at some of the examples we have posted below to get your creativity stirred up. Remember, what you create doesn't have to be perfect. You'll get better at it as you go. Don't forget to enjoy yourself!

Comments and Possible Uses
Beautiful pictures of God's creation which can be used as a conclusion or a point of application, calling for a response of praise for His incredible power. One possibility is to have them take turns giving sentence prayers of praise to God for making one thing they saw in the video footage.

Consider doing what this teacher did for his 5th and 6th grade Sunday school class. He made short introductions that illustrate the wrong attitude that his lesson addressed (allow older children to make their own after they see a few of yours). On the same clip, he made a conclusion showing the right kind of attitude. We've included a few to give you an idea. Check out others on youtube.com by spallozzi.
